Design Challenge
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 12 million tons of furniture waste are generated in the U.S. every year. Much of this ends up in landfills—more than 80% of discarded furniture is not recycled or reused.
How might we design a lounge chair that considers manufacturing to maximize the abilities of a limited material source?
Goal
Design a lounge chair consisting of one construction-grade 2 x 10 board.

      Sketching

Exploring rectilinear constructions to save material.
Cut Plan

The entire Loom Chair fits within the 10-foot construction board with extra room for possible defects. Each part is cut at the same width, making fabrication streamlined.
